Teacher Feature: The Hanneman’s

David and Michelle Hanneman have been a staple at SHS since its opening in 2008, where David was part of the committee to open the new school.

“In the spring of 2007, I was asked to be on the committee to name, choose the mascot and colors for the new high school that was being built,” David said. “The process was a lot of fun – especially picking out the mascot. At that time, I believe we were only the third high school in the United States to have a Saber-toothed cat for their mascot.”

Since then, he strives to keep the building up-to-date and is considered our own personal handyman on campus.
School spirit is a tradition the Hanneman’s boast.

“Most of our original flags were made by former Senior students who then donated them to the school. Over the years, the Senior Class has purchased newer flags. I think the flags help to promote pride and school spirit. Every summer, I take them home to clean and repair them. This is just one way that I can help keep up the pride of Southmoore,” David said.

Teachers at the school, senior and junior class sponsors, at every event… The Hanneman’s are now and forevermore referred to as Mr. & Mrs. Southmoore.
