Food for Thought

Having  a 30 minute class sounds amazing to most, but to Southmoore Ag students it can be a real disconnect. Because Southmoore doesn’t have its own FFA program, our “Future Farmers” have to bus over to Moore High to take an agriscience class.

The bus ride there combined with the bus ride back leaves Ag students with a meager 30 minutes in class. This makes it harder to get work done and truly become involved with FFA activities. The bus ride also prohibits some Southmoore students from taking certain Ag classes entirely, especially if it doesn’t show up.

I myself signed up for more than one Ag class but because it wouldn’t be efficient to bus me back and forth, I was only able to take one. Not only does it affect the students, but some teachers as well. To catch the bus some Ag students have to be let out of class early, which could cost valuable class time.

Agriscience is a great way for students to connect to society and learn discipline. Without Ag, none of the food you eat on a daily basis would be possible. So why doesn’t Southmoore have its own Ag program?
